I am not ready to self-identify as an atheist, not by a long shot. Still, I have a strange, and new sympathetic perspective toward stuff like this YouTube video.
I also "get" this rant, even though one little part of it really rankled me. I'll let you guess which part...

Slapdash,
Me too. It shouldn't be only atheists who "get" rants like that. Most of the things on that list should make all of us angry. Whether the bigots and the bullies are on "our" side or "theirs", wrong is wrong.
And another thing for us Christians to remember is that while God may call any or all of us fools, no human being has the right to call another human being a fool. The Bible is clear that this prerogative belongs to God alone. "Again, anyone who says to his brother, 'Raca,' is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell." (Matthew 5:22)
I understand the frustration that would drive someone to make a video like that, but I think we need to resist fundamentalists on all fronts. Ultimately, the point of the video (perhaps I misunderstood) was - our smart and pretty people are better than your smart and pretty people. Around we go again.
I thought Mystical seeker had a great blog on the idea of fundamentalism being poisonous, whether religious or atheist.

I think this video was made with passion and meant to tug at your intellectual and emotional heart strings. I don't know if "fool" as stated in the bible implies someone's intellect or impact on society. I work in science academia, and a PhD DOES NOT imply that someone is void of being a fool. A fool to me is someone who denies what is in their heart. In my heart is God and I accept this, God may not be as apparent in other people's heart. And I think putting a face on atheism makes us think "well, that's not fair, that person is valued". I say this in comparison to a video stating facts and proving a point without the emotional undercut.
